Tianjin Hi-tech Industry Park (THIP) is one of the first national Hi-tech industrial parks, approved by the State Council in March 1991, with a total planned area of 85.74 square kilometers. THIP consists of Huayuan Industrial Park, Binhai Hi-tech Area, Nankai Science and Technology Park, Wuqing Development Zone, Beichen Science and Technology Industrial Park and Tanggu Marine Science and Technology Industrial Park, in which, Huayuan Industrial Park and Binhai Hi-tech Area are the core of THIP, administrated by THIP comprehensively.
Huayuan Industrial Park locates at southwest of Tianjin City, with a planned area of 11.58 square kilometers. It features unique geographical location and convenient living conditions, with rich resources of innovation and the center of high level talents. It’s the first gas-free area of Tianjin, as well as the Environment Protection Model Zone of national ISO14000. It has attracted numbers of multinationals to invest and manufacture, such as Siemens, Toyota, Samsung, Microsoft, Sanyo, NEC, totally 24 companies in world Top 500, and 3,600 enterprises totally.
Binhai Hi-tech Area is an extension of THIP, with a planned area of 30.5 square kilometers. It’s one of eight functional parks and a flagship of the opening up of THIP. Binhai Hi-tech Area was established and developed jointly by the Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC (MOST) and Tianjin Municipal Government, first national Hi-tech zone jointly established by the Ministry and local City and approved by the State Council in China. The MOST has listed it in line of first level of world pilot parks. It’s one of the only two innovative parks. The MOST will also provide supports of various preferential policies, including the application of national key projects of science in its development.
The Policy Area and the Radiation Area of THIP consist of Nankai Science and Technology Park and Wuqing Development Zone, Beichen Science and Technology Industrial Park, Tanggu Marine Science and Technology Industrial Park respectively. They are major parts of THIP, and backbone of local economic growth.
